This One’s for the Boys.

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Last week my husband and I were driving back from Easter with the family and the transmission broke on our car. We were hours from home, everything was closed. Since we had a lot of time to kill waiting for our vehicle to get fix we started chatting about what I should blog about next. I asked my husband what he thought of my last few posts and if he had any suggestions. Clearly occupied with other stuff (or for a lack of caring) he said I should blog about golf…what he was watching on T.V. This made me think about two things…

1. I wonder if he’s ever read my prior blog posts and does he know I write about wedding related topics?! and 2. I’m sure he could care less to read about “vintage flowers” or “personalized cake toppers”. So, without further delay, a blog post worthy of the man cave.

Let’s face it, boys love sports and incorporating something like golf or hockey can turn out unique, creative and classy. It might also score you a few bonus points with the groomsmen!

I had so much fun researching groom’s cakes. Toolboxes, helmets, beer bottles, you name it and someone has turned it into a cake! I think my next post might have to be all about groom’s cake…

Happy Planning!

Play around with it! The more fun you have with it the more excited your guests will be to save the date for your wedding!

P.S. You could easily make creating the Save the Date into a productive date with your fiancée!

Something Blue!

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

One of my favorite things about weddings is the traditions.  There are all different kinds of traditions, from the ones your own family has started to the more well known ones, such as the famous something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. And a silver sixpence in her shoe! I hear this rhyme all the time when talking about weddings but I never really knew the meaning of having these items with you on your wedding day.  I found an article on The Knot and wanted to share it with those of you who like me,  never really knew the meaning. “Something old represents continuity; something new offers optimism for the future; something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness; something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity and a sixpence in your shoe is a wish for good fortune and prosperity.”

Recently I have noticed all the unique ways brides are encompassing the something blue into their wedding. Check out these new takes on an old tradition!

Your shoes are an easy way to add something blue to your wedding.  Don’t want your shoes to be completely blue? Here are some ways to subtly add blue to your shoes

Adding blue to your dress can be done a few different ways.  I love the idea of stitching the date of your wedding into your dress in blue thread. It makes the something blue a little more sentimental. Having blue tool under your dress is a different way to add blue to your wedding and your guests will be surprised as it peeks out while you walk down the aisle.

And last but certainly not least, the bouquet.  You can be very creative when it comes to your bouquet.  There are a wide range of flowers to choose from that can incorporate the something blue, or you can use a blue ribbon or brooch at the base of your bouquet.

Escort Cards

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

As my RSVP’s start coming in, it makes me start to think about my escort cards.  These days, brides are making escort cards fun and unique.  Even with the table tent style, they are finding different ways to incorporate them into their theme.  Check out these cool ideas for escort cards!

Wine Corks: These are very in this year and you can have your friends and family help you by saving their wine corks

Flowers: These are great for spring or summer and can be used as favors as well.  Give your guests a mini flower pots or seeds for their garden!

Pictures:  Find images of your guests or have them send a picture of themselves with their RSVP and write their name and table number on the picture and hang them up with clothes pins.

Flags: These are cute and easy to make and you can incorporate them into a theme.

Table Tents:  These are what people normally do but they are now adding their own twist to them.

Scrabble Letters:  Grab a couple of scrabble games and use the letters to spell out wedding words or have the first letter of the guests last name.

Drinks:  Emily posted last week about this but have a signature cocktail and have your guests name around the glass and their table number on a flag on the straw.

Vintage Window or chalk board:  This is an easy DIY project.  Find an old window or chalk board and write your guests names on it.

I hope these ideas help!  Happy planning!

Modern Chandeliers

Saturday, April 7th, 2012

Looking for a unique way to bring your space together? Lighting accessories at wedding are one of the biggest trends right now, and can work its way into any budget. You don’t have to stop at just lighting either. Adding any kind of accessory to the ceiling of your ceremony or reception will help enhance the atmosphere.  Check out some of these great examples!

These two examples show what an impact hanging one, or even a couple chandeliers over the alter can make.

Having the reception outside? Even if you don’t have a tent here are some cute ways to bring your space together under the open sky.

If you don’t want to add any lighting, there are many other options. Like the examples below you can drape fabric, hang balloons, or even choose a location that already has a great focal point.

Cocktail Hour!

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

Happy Thursday everyone!

During my perusing of magazines like The Knot and websites such as Pinterest,  I have noticed that a lot more detail is going into cocktail hour.  Couples are becoming more creative with the way they serve cocktails and what they serve.

A soda bar is a unique way to add a pop of color and to also have a non alcoholic option. Soda comes in many different colors so you are able choose sodas that match the color scheme of your wedding!

One of my favorite trends I have seen recently is greeting your guests with a drink that also includes their table number.

And what cocktail hour wouldn’t be complete without h’ordeuvres?  Pairing cocktails with your h’ordeuvres is a great way to tie everything together. I love the spiciness of Patron shots and mini tacos, while the cookies and milk bring a youthful flare to cocktail hour.

Hang in there everyone, the weekend is almost here!

Brian and Karen

Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

I would like to introduce Brian and Karen.  They are one of our couples from last wedding season and were a great couple to work with!  They were very easy going and had a lot of fun on their wedding day.  You could really see the love that they had for each other.

Brian and Karen used Elements of Elegance for their ceremony and reception floral, decor design, and day of coordination.  They used linens from Special Occasions Linens and they also incorporated some DIY items into their wedding such as the boutineers and brooch bouquets.  Check out more of their photos below by Kirsten Alana Photography.

I hope you enjoyed images from Brian and Karen’s wedding day!

Puppy Love

Monday, March 26th, 2012

Good Morning Friends! Today is one of those days when you need to double your dose of coffee just to get moving. On that note, prepare yourself for some major cuteness. I’m not sure if you know or not but the crew at EOE is dog crazy ! I don’t think we’ve made it through a company meeting with at least talking about one of our puppies!

The love for your four legged friend doesn’t have to stop at home. Incorporating your pet into your wedding or engagement pictures is a great way to make it a total family event. Many couple chose to have their dog walk down the aisle with the rings, greet guests at the ceremony, or just pose for a few amazing pictures. Remember to check with your ceremony location about their pet policy and it’s important to have an attendant for each animal. Be sure to pack plenty of baggies and  make sure a leash is handy!

Holly’s Favorite Color!

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

So this week is color week and my favorite color is turquoise.  I love that it pairs well with different color combinations that you would never expect.  My favorite combination for turquoise to be paired with is gray.

For all you orange lovers out there, turquoise and orange pair very well and make for a very fun and bright summer wedding!

Coral is very in this year and who knew it would pair so well with turquoise!

Red makes for a great summer wedding, where as black makes the turquoise color stand out more

By doing yellow and turquoise it allows you to be able to do billy balls, which are a favorite here at EOE!
Turquoise and purple remind me of peacock feathers so if you are looking to do a peacock themed wedding this would be a great color choice!
I hope you enjoyed my favorite color of turquoise!  If you know of any other turquoise combinations, let us know!

Unity Ceremony Alternatives

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

Most have seen the  normal unity ceremonies such as candles and sand but there are couples that want to try something new.  Here are a few unique and fun alternatives to unity ceremonies, which still symbolize the joining of the two families:

Tree Ceremony: Great for an eco-friendly bride and groom.  There are two  different versions with this option but with both the couple purchase a tree sapling and place it in a decorative pot and it is placed at the altar.  With the first version, the couple waters the sapling together and then takes it to their new home.  And second version, which is my favorite, is to have dirt from both parents’ yards.  At the beginning of the ceremony, have the mothers put half of the dirt in the pot.  During the unity ceremony, the bride and groom then put the rest of the dirt in the pot and take it to their new home together.

Love Letter Ceremony:  The bride and groom write a letter to each other before the ceremony.  Then during the unity ceremony, the letter is placed in a box that is locked up.  The bride and groom each have a lock and a key.  On the one year anniversary, they each unlock their lock and read the letters.  They can add items to the box if they would like, such as pictures, or their favorite bottle of wine.

Wine Ceremony: Red wine and white wine are placed in two individual carafes and there is an empty carafe in the middle.  The bride and groom the pour the red and white wine into the empty carafe as a symbol of blending the two together.  They each then pour a glass of wine for each other, make a toast to their new lives together and take a drink.

Knot tying ceremony: The couple ties a knot together to symbolize them “tying the knot.”  I found this idea on Pinterest.  The couple buys some rope and ties a fisherman’s knot.  With the knot that they tied the rope would break before the knot comes undone and only gets tighter with pressure.

Happy Planning! ~Holly
