Barterering for a wedding?

Bartering your way into a great wedding… Can you really have a $40,000.00 wedding for $3000.00? Well that is exactly what Jennifer Mae Fletke and Chris Watters of Santa Monica California did according to an article that CNN published this morning. The couple took a look at the economy and decided that they realistically could not afford the wedding that they really wanted. So they decided they would trade their talents with other local vendors for their services. They admitted it was a lot of hard work and they were told no numerous times.     Who would even consider spending 40,000 dollars on a wedding? That is moronic. It is a seremony that last a few hours. After the ceremony is over. You are out 40,000 dollars. Get real people. Save the money and buy a house, or donate to charity. I know women have this dream of a wedding since being a little girl, but spending that kind of money on something that only last one evening is just plain moronic! And with the divorce rate at 60%, think about it!

    As this type of bartering increases I wonder how many of these folks understand they have created a taxable event? Failure to properly value the bartered services risks an unhappy day with the IRS.
